Course Narrative
SPAN 306 was about culture and civilization. We were able to Study the Latin American countries that exist. We learned about the history of some countries. Basically, we were able to learn about historical context. One important thing was to memorize all the Latin American countries. We had to put the names of the countries in the map. So, we had to identify the places. It was difficult for me to locate the countries in the map in the first time, but in the second time I did it. It was so sad to know some bad things that have happened in the countries. I know that each country face different conflicts. In addition, I feel that in most countries there is corruption. Two of my classmates and I made an oral presentation about Mexico. We were focus on Porfirio Diaz and the porfiriato. We talked about unfair distribution of riches and earth, exploitation of workers, political corruption and administrative and denial of democracy too. Also, we present about the Mexican Revolution. In addition we talked about the Guadalupe-Hidalgo Treaty. Definitely, we presented about Massacre of Tlatelolco and the 43 students from Ayotzinapa. I gained information about other countries that I did not know. It was so important to learn about other culture. I wish to develop further in reading more books to obtain more knowledge. I think that this course is connected with JAPAN 313 course because it talks about culture. I intend to explore this learning by reading more about other countries.
