Course Narrative
The course 301s was about service learning. I made my community hours in an elementary school. First at all, I was volunteering in Jesse G Sanchez school in the After School Program. There, I knew new people. I met Mr. Lopez who tell me to call him “Mr. L.”. The reason that he told me to name him like that is because there are like six persons with the same last name. I was working for that teacher, so I helped students with their homework in Spanish and English. Basically, I helped them to understand it because I wanted that they will be able to do it by themselves. For example, if a student had a question about Math or English, I answered that question. Not only helped students to do their homework, but when they have free time they used to go to play in the playground, and I took care about them. In addition, I had a better communication with them, so I really motivated them. Also, on Wednesdays we used to pick up garbage that was thrown in the school. Also, I gain the knowledge of having experience working with students. Also, the knowledge that I gain is that students speak Spanish and it really helped me because my major is spanish. The area that I wish to develop further is to improve my English especially in Speaking it. I think this class has a connection with my SPAN 301 class because in both class I was able to communicate orally more with my classmate. Also, they have connection for I practice my grammar.
