Course Narrative
In SPAN 345 we were able to learn about linguistics and bilingualism. As we know linguistics is what corresponds or is related to language. This word also agrees to form an agreement with the science that has the language as something of study. Bilingualism is the frequent use of two languages in the same area or linguistic community. Also, we studied about the issue of acquisition. The acquisition of a language in children begins from the moment they are born. It is interesting that a child at two years of age can express vocabulary and phrases. Children from five years to nine years of age recognize the morphological system. However, children do not converse or express words like adults because the linguistic development of a child is different from that of an adult. Children make some mistakes during linguistic development, but they correct them. For example, to say banana they just say nana and correct that error by unconsciously repeating the word. When a child has two mother tongues such as Spanish and English, the child will speak both languages without any confusion. I did a final reflection for this class. Basically, I made notes about the concepts and the aspects that we saw in class. I gained the knowledge more about linguistics and bilingualism. I want to develop further on investigate more about other dialects because we got information about some dialects. For instance, we studied Zapoteco, Purepecha, náhuatl, etc. This course is related to SPAN 313 because it talks about the aspects of linguistics. I intend to explore this learning service by practicing the aspects and the concepts of bilingualism and linguistics.
